Our first quarterly newsletter was published in March 2010. Our business is still evolving as we move with customer requirements and the seasons. We hope that by publishing a quarterly newsletter, we will be able to highlight what offers are new, changed or just seasonal. The newsletter incorporated a loyalty card that offers a small reward for regular visits to our business. The newsletter will be available online and from the shop but if you would like to register to receive one by email or post, please fill in our Feed Back Form. The loyalty card has proved to be surprisingly well received and since its inception, the number of completed cards has risen quickly. The April draw for a £10 gift voucher was won by Hugo Hammond and May's winner was Katherine Holt. We hope to publish our second newsletter in July.
We hold 4 annual farm events, to tie in with the seasons on the farm.
Spring Blossom Walk Sat. 1st May
Summer BBQ Sat. 10th July
Apple Weekend (& Craft Fair) Sat. 9th & Sun.10th October
Christmas Fayre Sat. 11th December
Following the retirement of Ron & Peggy Morgan, who ran the Haselbury Village Shop and Post Office so successfully for many years, we have created our own "Village Shop" department. Ron and Peggy have been very helpful in helping us fine-tune the necessities to economically supply the requirements of families living and holidaying in our locality. While many of our existing daily staples, such as bread, milk, eggs, butter, cheese and meat amply qualify as "Village Shop" items, we feel that it is important to maintain our image as a "Local Farm Shop" stocking local produce. We have therefore chosen to categorise new items that are not locally grown or produced, as "Village Shop" and display them together in a department that clearly distinguishes them. These include household items, such as paper tissues, cleaning and cooking products as well as personal care items such as tooth brushes, toothpaste and shaving equipment. This also includes food items that we now stock that are not locally produced, including tinned foods, (some) breakfast cereals, fruit squashes, dried fruit and herbs. Although some crossover between departments is bound to occur, we hope that customers will soon familiarise themselves with where to find their requirements.
As part of the Village Shop service, daily newspapers are kindly organised by Peter Lewer has kindly agreed to continue the arrangement he had with Ron and Peggy Morgan at Haselbury. This means that we are now able to stock daily and Sunday papers (and a limited range of magazines), which can be reserved if required. More obscure titles can be ordered when requested. It is a regular occurrence these days, for national newspapers to offer customers money-off vouchers. We are able to accept these vouchers as per the terms stipulated in each offer.
STAMPS - Although the Post Office's closure of their Haselbury outlet means that most PO business will have to be transacted in Crewkerne, Misterton or East Chinnock, we do stock first and second class stamps, available in books of 12.
DRY CLEANING - We are a collection point for Express Dry Cleaning and Services. Collections are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with articles for cleaning being returned on the next collection day. Express offer a range of other services including shoe repairs and photo developing.
HANGING BASKETS - We have a small range of pre-planted hanging baskets or we offer a service to replant your old baskets for no extra charge, other than the plants and compost that you choose from the garden centre. We carry a range of baskets, liners and brackets for customers who like to do their own.
COMPOSTED SHREDDED WOOD - Prunings from our apple trees and alder windbreaks on the farm are shredded and composted to make an ideal garden mulch. Long lasting and effective at smothering weeds and reducing moisture loss from the soil. At only £2 per 65L bag, they represent fantastic value compared with any other commercial mulching product. We can supply discounted bulk loads locally or for collection if you prefer.
COLOURFUL PATIO POTS - We have a range of colourful planted pots or tubs that will brighten up any patio area in your garden or as a welcoming area next to your front door or barbeque. As for hanging baskets, we offer a no cost service for replanting your old pots. Just choose what you want to use from our stock and we will replant for no extra cost.
YELLOW PRICE LABELS - Yellow price labels are used to reduce food items before they reach their sell by date. Please keep a wary eye out for a chance to save some money on an upcoming meal, or for something to put in the freezer.
MEAT - we regularly run special offers on frozen meat. Offers are regularly 5% off but often reach up to 50% off as an item reaches its frozen use-by date. You will always find some brilliant bargains in our freezer.
COMPOST - We currently have Godwins multi-purpose compost, 65L @ 3 for £10.00. This offer is likely to be limited to the early season as price rises are expected later in the year.
25Litre compost bags - including Vital Earth's range of No.1, No.2, No.3 and Top Soil are all £3.50 each but buy any two for £6.00 and save yourself £1.00.
BARGAIN BASKET - Please keep a lookout in our Bargain Basket (normally on the bottom shelf of the Village Shop Shelves) where we mark down any products that have exceeded their best before date.
ICE CREAM - we offer a multi-buy saving for families purchasing Ice Creams. Buy any 3 of the same size and get the 4th half price.
